LOS ANGELES, CA (February 28, 2012) Skuna Bay Vancouver Island Craft Salmon is pleased to announce their new Southwest region Salmon Specialist – Melissa Carrasquillo.
Melissa has substantial experience and passion for quality and sustainable seafood, as evidenced by her most recent position as Program Director for the Seafood for the Future program at the Aquarium of the Pacific, Long Beach, which named Skuna Bay a partner this past December.
“As I learned more about Skuna Bay Salmon and got to know the craftsmen farmers, I became more impressed with their passion for raising the best salmon possible and commitment to ethically and environmentally sound aquaculture practices. Their goals align with my own so I decided to join the Skuna Bay team,” said Melissa.
“I’m looking forward to working with chefs and other potential partners as they discover the truly amazing texture, delicious flavor and unique methods of ensuring our salmon is delivered fresh from the ocean to chefs to help them create memorable meals for their diners. I believe everyone wants to eat healthy, tasty and sustainable food and Skuna Bay salmon delivers on all counts.”
As Salmon Specialist for Skuna Bay, Carrasquillo will work closely with chefs, restaurateurs and other partners to build awareness and interest in this premium quality salmon from the pure ocean water off the coast of British Columbia’s Vancouver Island.
Current Skuna Bay customers and fans include Chef Ian Gresik, Executive Chef at Drago Centro in Downtown Los Angeles; Chef Brandon Boudet of Little Dom’s and other top restaurants; and Chef Micah Wexler of Mezze among other leading and talented chefs.
Melissa received Los Angeles Magazine’s prestigious 2011 Earth Changer Award for her advisory work within the seafood industry through the Seafood for the Future Program. Prior to the Aquarium of the Pacific, she was Chief Sustainability Officer with City Seafoods in Los Angeles, CA.
