The Job:
The Salmon Specialist for the West region is responsible for ensuring that Skuna Bay has a strong presence and relations in the culinary channel and that our salmon is well-managed in order to achive maximum satisfaction by our culinary customers and partners. The geographic area of responsibility includes: California, Arizona, Nevada, Oregon, Washington State. It may also include Colorado or Texas and these regions' peripheral markets.
Responsible for:
- Executing all commercial activities related to Skuna Bay Salmon
- Work with our exclusive distributor partners
- Maximizing performance in the upscale restaurant channel, multi-unit accounts and targeted retailers
- Establishing and maintaining relationships with all key influencers and stakeholders deemed important to Skuna Bay Salmon
- Business reporting and management
Specific Responsibilities Business Development
- Open new upscale restaurant, retail and hospitality accounts, securing distribution
- Secure ongoing loyalty and customer satisfaction among our culinary customers and partners
- Execute programs to drive consumer pull at these accounts
- Execute educational and staff incentive programs with staff at these accounts
- Brand education and incentive programs for distributor partner sales staff
- Assist in achieving visibility on menus
- Management of sampling program
- Conducting on site demonstrations
Brand Representation
- Introducing Skuna Bay Salmon to the upscale restaurant channel
- Educating restaurant staff in both front and back of the house
- Hold Skuna Bay Salmon introduction and educational dinners with the restaurant community and other key stakeholders and be able to speak about Skuna Bay Salmon in larger group settings.
- Support Skuna Bay Salmon's strategic programs including assisting local PR agencies and media where needed
- Conduct in store demos with targeted retailers occasionally throughout the year
Relationship
- Establish relationships with key members of our distributor partners
- Travel with distributor partner representatives to educate and help build advocates for Skuna Bay Salmon
- Build relationships with the decision makers in the upscale restaurant channel (including both front, back of the house and general management)
Business Management
- Generating sales metric reports including listings, active listings, target list, volume sales and other executional metrics
- Assisting with logistics related to shipping to distributor, quality management and other logistic issues
- Management of executional budget
- Market and competitive intelligence reports
Time / Focus
- Activities of this role will be approximately broken out as follows:
- Brand building activities focusing on restaurant programs, staff education – 25%
- Sales presentations and new account acquisition – 35%
- Distributor resource including travel with sales team – 25%
- Administration and reporting – 10%
- Relationship building activities – 5%
Travel
This role is expected to be located in Southern California but it is recognized that there will be much overnight travel to other markets in the territory. In addition, occasionally and during your training period you will be required to travel out of the United States to British Columbia, Canada to visit the farms. You will be required to provide all required travel documents necessary for travel outside of the U.S.

- Experience in the food service industry focusing on white table cloth: preferably kitchen experience
- Experience with targeted food retailers
- Experience and passion for working with high end ingredients with a focus on protein, preferably fresh fish
- Experience working with distributor partners
- A passion and knowledge of issues in today's seafood and aquaculture business
- A passion for building relationships
- Entrepreneurial approach, and experience in building a business
- Skill for managing large, multi-unit customers
